From October to February it rains quite a lot and it's cold, but snow is something that has rarely happened. Umbrellas are not really useful in winter because the wind flows rather strong and your umbrella can finish broken. Summer is better but it arrives late. Summer is pretty humid ans some times very hot. The first part of the master will be during the long winter.

English at all. But at the EMN most of people (I could say almost everyone)
speak English. At the airport and the train station you may find English

Yes it is important. It's,certainly, not compulsory, but most of the master students have one. At the EMN there are many computers at your disposition: Sun UltraSparc 4, 5, PCs with Linux and Windows NT. However, you can use them in a restricted schedule which is from 7hr to 21hr. The weekends the EMN is closed to students and Masters. You can certainly survive without a computer but you will want to have one in your dorm. Moreover, you can profit of the LAN connection of your room and be permanently connected to the Internet.
You can bring your computer if you want. You should try to verify if you have the invoice of your PC so you can bring it back to home with out paying taxes in the customs. Otherwise, you can get a computer here in Nantes and there are some different ways to do it:
